Configuring iOS hardware access
How do I grant or reset Camera and Location permissions?
When you launch GPS Camera for the first time, iOS will prompt you for access. If you previously denied access, open your iPhone or iPad Settings app, scroll down to tap GPS Camera, and make sure Camera, Microphone, Location (set to "While Using the App"), and Photos are enabled.
Why does the camera show a black screen in iOS Simulator?
Apple's iOS Simulator does not emulate camera hardware. To capture photos and videos with GPS overlays, you must run the app on a physical Apple iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.0 or newer.

Understanding EXIF metadata and overlays
What is the difference between visual overlay and EXIF metadata?
GPS Camera embeds your location in two distinct ways:
- Visual Overlay: A sleek, glassmorphism panel rendered directly onto the captured photo or video frame showing formatted coordinates, altitude, and timestamp.
- EXIF / XMP Metadata: Digital coordinates embedded invisibly inside the media file header. This allows photo mapping software (like Apple Photos Map view) to pin exact locations.
How do I share photos without losing GPS coordinates?
Some messaging apps and social media platforms automatically strip EXIF metadata to save bandwidth or protect privacy. When using the native iOS share sheet from within GPS Camera or Apple Photos, tap Options at the top of the share sheet and toggle on All Photo Data or Location to ensure coordinates remain intact.
Troubleshooting
Resolving common issues
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist:
- 1Coordinates showing 0.000° or loading indefinitely? Ensure you have a clear view of the sky or are not deep underground where GPS satellite signals are blocked. Verify Location Services are enabled in iOS Settings.
- 2Photos not saving to Gallery? Check that your iOS device has sufficient free storage space and that you have granted full Add/Read access to the Photo Library in iOS Privacy Settings.
- 3Audio missing from recorded videos? Confirm that Microphone permission is granted in Settings → GPS Camera.
